Lovely work, Jameelah. I couldn't have said it better myself (seriously I could not have). Fresh off a breakup myself, I've been trying to figure out what it is that bothers me so much about this day (besides the commercialism, bad candy, bad movies, etc). You nailed it: it only has meaning for those not in a position to celebrate it.

To your list, I'd throw in "Out of Time" by The Rolling Stones (let's give Mick Jagger equal time), the Nick/Lindsey breakup episode of Freaks and Geeks, and Richard Ford's "Reunion." The AV Club has some additional suggestions:,51688/
